What is Denture Stabilization?

Denture stabilization is a cost-effective procedure that improves the functionality and comfort of traditional dentures. The process utilizes two or four implants that anchor the prosthetic firmly in place, which counteracts the drawbacks of regular dentures that can slide around, making chewing and speaking difficult.

Long Island Cosmetic and Implant Dentists offer cost-effective denture stabilization. Contact us today for a consultation. You’ll find a state-of-the-art practice dedicated to delivering a full range of services, from hygiene and restorative dentistry to implants and cosmetic treatments

How Denture Stabilization Works

The placement of implant-supported dentures depends on the health and integrity of your jawbone. Patients who are good candidates can have existing dentures retrofitted with implants or start from scratch, creating a securely-fastened upper or lower denture.

We offer ball-retained denture stabilization, which means:

  • Ball-retained or stud-retained implants will lock into the dentures using a metal ball and socket attachment.
  • The dentures snap into place and can be easily removed for cleaning.

Note that permanent implant-stabilized dentures are brushed just like your natural teeth and are only removed by your dentist for exams and cleanings.

How Long Does the Procedure Take?

It takes several months for the dental implants to fuse with the jawbone. Once the osseointegration is complete, you will have a strong and stable anchor to affix your dentures. The implants mimic the function of tooth roots, helping to prevent jawbone deterioration. Dental implants can last over 20 years, and with proper hygiene and care–your implant-supported denture can last ten years.

Benefits of Denture Stabilization

Consider the many advantages of denture stabilization:

  • Dentures do not move or slip around
  • Improved ability to chew foods, aiding digestion
  • Three times the biting force, which means fewer dietary limitations
  • Prevents the jawbone from receding, helping to preserve facial structure
  • Improved comfort
  • Eliminates the need for messy adhesives
  • Renewed self-esteem when speaking
  • More affordable than All-on-4 implants
  • Easy to remove and clean
  • Prevents inflammation and mouth sores
  • Increases the longevity of dentures
  • Regain confidence in your smile

Denture stabilization eliminates the discomfort and limitations associated with traditional dentures. Moreover, it’s an affordable alternative to individual implants that promises the same functional and aesthetic benefits.

Am I a Good Candidate?

An oral examination and imaging tests are the first steps to determining candidacy for this procedure. Healthy gum tissue and sufficient jawbone are essential. If you are missing an entire arch of teeth and have enough bone tissue to support small implant posts, you may qualify for this life-changing procedure. However, if imaging tests show that bone density is less than ideal, our dentists may suggest a grafting procedure to help improve implant success.
